So, you want to do your best to get all your points every single week, right? You may have a fabulous week and then you may have a week where life happens. You may get sick, have sick kids, or you may have a wonderful vacation planned right in the middle of this challenge (lucky!). So, don't throw in the towel, instead ADAPT! Do your best with what you have available to you. Yes, points will help determine the winner; however, if the person with the most points didn't improve at all on his/her fitness test, body fat, or pictures then they may not be the winner in the end.
If you can't make it in for a WOD for whatever reason and the thought of running on a treadmill for 60 minutes makes you want to stick needles in your eyes, then let me offer a couple suggestions:
Your exercise points do not have to be all of the same mode. You don't have do do treadmill for 60 or bike for 60 or elliptical for 60. You may not have access to this equipment, so what can you do?
I have added a list of some "Travel WODs" under the "Quick Links" section to the right. These are named "Travel WODs" because you could easily do them in a hotel room, but you could also do them in your family room. While you can only count 1 home/travel WOD as 10 points, then your other workouts need to total 60 minutes to earn that same 10 points. So if you want to earn the 10 points for 6 days, put a few of these WODs together to equal 60 minutes of work. Or, add in some cardio inbetween the home WOD(s). If you don't have a machine, use your jumprope or do step-ups with a step stool, coffee table, stair, or even run up and down your stairs for a set number of times in between.
If sickness isn't keeping you home and you enjoy outdoor activities, embrace the cold and enjoy an hour of snow-shoeing or an afternoon of skiing or sledding (just make sure you pick a really steep hill and pull your kids up it too :).
Try a workout DVD. If you don't have any, the library has a large selection that you can check out for free. Or, there are hundreds of options on Amazon, Hulu, and Comcast. I'm not finding many on Netflix, so if I'm searching wrong and you have found some, pass along that info.
Having said all of that, you still get points even if you workout for 30 minutes. You can break that up into 3-10 minute workouts throughout the day if it gets too crazy.
Do your best to ADAPT to the situation you are in rather than feel like it's an all or nothing mentality. Always remember that SOMETHING is better than NOTHING!
p.s. If you have a home/travel WOD that you have made up, leave a comment here and I'll add them to the link. If you have other questions related to exercise that are not answered in the FAQ, leave a comment and I'll add your question to the FAQ.
p.p.s As we dive further into this challenge, there may or may not be additional surprise challenges that will allow you to earn extra points. More info coming...later.
