What are your biggest obstacles that keep you from coming to CrossFit regularly?
How do you plan to overcome them in order to maximize your points for yourself and your team?
Fellow NutriFitters, feel free to offer your advice on other's comments as well if you've had a similar obstacle.
It use to be sleep...but now I have an auto alarm that is instilled in me that wakes me up whether I want it to or not. I think it is a tired/sore body holds me back sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWarner...My biggest challenge is my crappy attitude. No energy. I ddon't want to "get up" for the Super bowl everyday. To fight this , I follow Laura's example. Once the clock starts it's game on.
ReplyDeleteSore body and extreme exhaustion.
ReplyDeleteOther commitments like volunteering at kid's school, etc... I struggle sometimes remembering a commitment to me and exercise is just as valid as those commitments to others.
ReplyDeleteI used to let everything else take priority but since the first Nutrifit challenge with 6 WODs a week and all the extra work....I just go. Even if its "Karen" I swear, I get dressed and I go :) Laura
ReplyDeleteLarry: Injury.... I do my best to concentrate on my form especially when I begin to fatigue. If we make one mistake coming off a box or arching our backs during a lift it can cause us to miss a week or more while we recover. Well, there is also the part about limiting my intake of rocket fuel......
ReplyDeleteMichael T: CrossFit Herriman,CrossFit South Valley, My job at Garff, my 3 kids and all the house work and yard work, and shopping for Sara's clothes.... other than those things Nothing.
ReplyDeleteLori: Busy life! You would think that now that I'm "retired" I would have lots of free time. Not so! I may have retired from my career but I'm still working :) I have enjoyed going to the morning classes so I'm able to have some family time in the evenings ...
ReplyDeleteLife!! Kids, dance, soccer, karate, lack of Diet Coke!
ReplyDeleteTraining for triathlons (biking and swimming) and long distance running races...only so much energy in the body and time in the week. CrossFit totally helps me with the shorter races!!!
ReplyDeleteNothing can keep me away. Sara and Mike are not that lucky.
ReplyDeleteJust feeling like I don't have the energy to get through it...but I find when I do go, I can do it and feel so much better after. Something like a Nutrifit challenge keeps me coming daily, so I guess I just have to sign up for the challenges for the rest of my life...
ReplyDeleteScott says: No ability to control my work schedule. Makes it hard to plan workouts.
ReplyDeleteMyself: I sometimes talk myself out of going because i feel too tired and want to rest. Other than that sometimes i get busy doing things with my son and other things but really when it comes down to it i have no real excuse, just laziness. I'm definitely not going to be doing that for the next six weeks and hopefully afterwards.
ReplyDeleteStacey Minion
Deadlifts in the WOD
ReplyDeleteSteve lane; Probably time with Caleb and injury.
ReplyDeleteBaseball, lack of sleep, baseball, PTA, volunteering, baseball, pushing through injury, baseball, lack of sleep, baseball. The reality is that I just become lazy in a sense. It's just easier to make an excuse and press off than it is to just get up when the alarm goes off. Or I justify not going because I have so much going on. The truth is, once I've done CrossFit for the day then I am more prepared to complete my to do list, and I feel so much better. I think being part of a team motivates me differently. It's easier to disappoint myself than it is to disappoint people on my team.

ReplyDeleteFatigue after a long day of work, school, and kids activities. I battle these by going to sleep earlier and realizing that I feel much better after a good workout.
ReplyDeleteTough getting out of bed this a.m. But sure feel better after working out. So worth it
ReplyDeleteSometimes my body just feels run down, but usually Crossfit energizes me so I make myself go even when I don't feel like it. Having two days to recover for this nutrifit challenge is wonderful. Also, my right shoulder is always painful and it is discouraging. I have had to cut back on my lifting weight and modify and no matter how faithful I have been stretching te pain doesn't seem to go away. One of these days...... :)
ReplyDeleteNathan - Simply put, other priorities... namely Ultimate Frisbee. Being unemployed and playing Mr Mom plus playing Ultimate and coaching Ultimate and soccer upwards of 16 hrs a week makes it hard to set aside a full hour to work out... beyond that is fear of being sore and even slower then normal when practice/scrimmaging with my Club team... to me, Ultimate comes first, CF is a supplement to it, not the priority.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of changing, if I go back to my normal (employed) alarm, I can make the 6am class and be home at 7 in time for wifey to leave to work. It requires me to sacrifice 90 minutes of sleep and I have the same soreness/slowness risk but I can use all the exercise I can get to help me lose this body fat. I really want to maintain my strength and muscle while losing the weight too, CF should help...
Getting enough rest. I like my rest days.... :-D
ReplyDeleteSofia Mobley- Out loud I say it is my kids, my husband, my parents but, the truth is...It is ME!!! Positive thinking and positive affirmations. Having this NutriFit Challenge is going to help me transition into a CrossFitter/NutriFitter!!!
ReplyDeleteFinding balance is my struggle. When I'm on I'm on, when I slip and fall it's hard to get myself to be okay with it and get back on. If life overwhelms me one day it should be okay to take a day off. But a week? A month? Nope. I'm learning though. Kim W. gave me a great suggestion. Sign up at the beginning of the week. It's in my schedule, set.
ReplyDeleteIf I have to go to the 6am class, then waking up is the challenge. Otherwise, my biggest obstacle is seeing the WOD the night before and trying to make an excuse to not go. I have learned to just not look anymore!
ReplyDeleteKim K: My obstacle is scheduling. It is a challenge to balance family/job/WODs. I started going to the 5:00 am class so I could fit more into my day.
ReplyDeleteTy: I can always tell when I am needing a few rest days when I start sleeping through the alarm clock. It probably doesn't help that going to bed at 11:00 PM is considered an early night around the Preston house.
ReplyDeleteBiggest obstacles for me are my husband traveling and my kid's activities. That and being an insomniac, so early morning classes can be a challenge. I don't love bringing my kids to the gym because it's kind of my selfish time, but when my husband is on the road, it's not a choice. So we load up the crew and get it done!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest obstacles are having to stay late at work and dealing with unexpected family situations.
ReplyDeleteStaying up too late/my 1 year old wakes up in the middle of the night sometimes and it makes it hard to come in early. The rest of my day is just too busy to come any other time.
ReplyDeleteCrystal - juggling kids, my job, housework, kids activities, and trying to be good at it all. This challenge came at the perfect time for me to get back in to the habit of working out and to kick all my bad food habits I created when I was pregnant.
ReplyDeleteBiggest obstacle is obviously my little bear (Izzy). I'm still working on keeping her on a regular schedule. So... my plan to keep me coming is prioritizing my time and keep a good morning routine. This way she is less likely to be fussy, and I get some time to work out and get the challenges done early.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest obstacle that keeps me from coming to the box regularly is illness, so I plan on not getting sick. SMILE FACE!!!
